And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. – Matthew 17:20
When I think about mountains I see large, immovable objects in my mind. I don’t think I would ever go to a mountain and say, “Move!” So when I think about my perspective on mountains I find that God’s word is daring us to enter into a different territory. The world’s logic says that mountains cannot move, but God says that if you have faith the size of a mustard seed you’d tell that mountain “move” and it would move.
Mountains, what in our lives resemble mountains? Sometimes there are things in our lives that we find to be permanent and immovable. Maybe you’re living with problems that you don’t see solutions to. Maybe drugs and alcoholism addictions have plagued your family for generations and you think the cycle will never end. But whatever those things are we’ve given them a place to become permanent in our lives. We’ve let problems, generational chains, and false identities become mountains in our lives. The enemy wants us to believe that those mountains can’t be moved but God is telling us that they can be moved if we have faith.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. – Hebrews 11:1
The Bible is clear that faith is not something we see, but rather it is believing in the things we don’t see. That goes completely against the world’s logic. The world wants us to see before we believe. God says believe and you’ll see. That mountain, the immovable, permanent mountain in your life that you don’t think will ever change God says tell it to move and it will move. Just like God told Ezequiel to prophesy over the dry bones the Bible tells us that life and death lies in the power of the tongue.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. – Proverbs 18:21
Whatever your problem is, no matter how great or small it may seem, speak life into it. The generational chains that have plagued your family, declare that they are broken in Jesus’ name. Maybe you’ve sinned and the guilt and shame is killing you, start to declare God’s word over your life. “I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me and I am more than a conqueror in Him.” At first that mountain will look immovable but through our faith and perserverence God will move that mountain.
