Sometimes it’s difficult to understand God’s plan for our lives. We think we’re doing the right thing, asking for the right thing, and then things don’t work out the way we’d hope. What happens then? It’s easy to be discouraged, let’s admit it. We’re humans and discouragement comes to our lives. It doesn’t matter who you are sometimes life can present us with obstacles that are too overwhelming. It’s happened to me. But as we continue today’s blog we’ll come to the conclusion that God is our only hope.
This blog post is simply me going through my own thoughts and eventually coming to the conclusion that God has been faithful. I know it’s hard to see it that way when you’re going through a rough patch in your life. It’s easy to say “God is good” when things are going good for you. You’re happy, you have a good job, you have money, your friendships are thriving, and you feel like you’re on top of the mountain. But what about those moments when everything is seemingly going wrong. You don’t have joy because your boat has been rocked. Now you’re at the bottom of the mountain looking up at its immense size. What happens when we find ourselves in this predicament?
When we find ourselves feeling low we tend to get discouraged. Fear overcomes us and we feel isolated like a sheep without its shepard. We start walking around feeling like God is no longer with us. We feel empty inside and we start to lose our sense of purpose. Life seems dull and there’s something inside of you that tells you it can be different, but you wallow in your isolation.
My Christian life has been far from perfect. At one point I wished I had never experienced lows. “I wish I never had fallen after coming to my first love.” “I should have stayed consistent. I should have taken better care of my spiritual life.” Thoughts like those are the ones that sometimes plague me. But when I think about it, I guess I’m ok with how it has all worked out. Maybe my conviction wouldn’t have been strong had I stayed “consistent”. Who knows, but I’m glad to still have an opportunity from God.
I think we should always look at the bright spots. I don’t know what you’re going through. I don’t know your problems and life circumstances. I’m not God I’m just a regular person. But if there’s anything I can tell you from my own experiences is that God is with you. I don’t know if you’re happy or sad right now, but God is with you. You might be in need but God is with you. And I think that’s a comforting truth. To know that although we might be going through a high or low, God is with us. And God is good and we know that His plans for us are good.
God is in control of everything. If He wasn’t, He wouldn’t be God. But it’s good to have knowledge of who God is along with our experience because that strengthens our conviction and belief in God.
“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” – 1 Peter 1:7
Everything that we go through is beneficial to us. Even those falls if God has mercy on us can help us avoid similar situations in the future. Prayers that weren’t answered the way you expected or that you haven’t received a response for yet can help us. All things work for good to them that love God says Romans 8:28.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
We don’t always understand God’s plan for our lives. But even in the midst of uncertainty we must trust God. And if we ever encounter moments of affliction we have to run to Him. The best thing we can do under any circumstance is to come to God in prayer and He’ll help us. Don’t let the enemy keep you away from God because the enemy is like the bully that wants to torment you when no one is looking. When friends and family aren’t looking, the enemy will get you in to a corner and start to intimidate you. But as soon you come into the light that is God, the enemy will flee like the coward that he is. So trust God and believe in His promises. If God answers your prayers that’s great and if not that’s just fine because God is good and mercy is everlasting.
