God Receives You Just the Way You Are

“I’m a mess, but does God receive me this way? Will God receive me knowing the mess that I am? I’ve done so much wrong, how can I possibly come before God knowing that I’ve even blasphemed against Him?” These are thoughts that I used to have when I initially gave my life to God. I was messy and full of guilt and shame. But when I cried out to God for help, He received me just as I was.

In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me. – Psalm 120:1

God Continues to Save

Today, I know that God continues to do the same thing and is always waiting for us with open arms. Sometimes we feel like our past is just too messy for God to accept. But we’re not perfect. We all have a past. Paul used to persecute the church and would literally take Christians from their homes to take them to jail and force them to blaspheme God. When they stoned a disciple of Christ (Stephen) the Bible says that Paul consented in his death. But God’s mercy transformed Paul’s life. So much so that instead of going to persecute Christians in Damascus, he went back to preach the Gospel.

Today is a new day and every day we open up our eyes we can see God’s mercy for our lives. I don’t know where you come from, your past, or your current situation. But one thing I do know is that God is merciful and loving. I’ve dealt with my fair share of problems but God’s mercy is greater than our feelings of shame and guilt. Let’s not let God’s mercy be in vain. If God has you alive it’s because He loves you and has a purpose for your life.

If You’re “Messy” You’re Prime Material in God’s Hands

Messy? God works with that. A messy person is prime material in the hands of God. When God takes a person that feels worthless, He demonstrates His love towards them and His name is glorified. There’s nothing impossible for God. That’s not my word but His word. If you feel messy today is a great day to come to Christ. We all have need of God and without Him we’re nothing. We might find temporary pleasure in the things the world offers us, but at the end of the day it will never satisfy us.

Sometimes it’s through our walk with Christ that we realize just how true His word is. There is no good for us outside of God. When God’s love enters our hearts we’ll never be the same again. Because no one has loved us or can love us like God. When we experience His unconditional love for us it’ll mark our lives forever. We might try to run away from Him and hide. But we’ll never be able to escape Him in our thoughts. God takes us in as messy individuals and embraces us just the way we are. His love transforms us and we love Him because He first loved us.

We love him, because he first loved us. – 1 John 4:19
