Believing in a God that Gives New Opportunities
Today I wanted to talk about the God that gives new opportunities. As humans we all have our shortcomings. The Bible even says in Romans 3:23 that everyone has sinned and falls short of the glory of God. So if you’ve made mistakes, understand that you have something in common with all humanity. No one is perfect but the good news is that we have a God who is perfect and who is on our side.
When we fail God sometimes we typically shy away from coming to Him. The enemies lies, guilt, and shame are all reasons that pull us away from God. But God’s favor over your life is greater than the condemnation that you feel. God still loves you and is willing to lift you up and embrace you with open arms. That’s why the Bible says that those who come to Him, He will in no way cast out (John 6:37). God is a merciful God that forgives and gives grace to the brokenhearted. If you’re going through a rough time in your life and feel unworthy of God’s love, it’s never too late. The Bible says that while there is still breath there is hope. So I want to invite you to come to Christ. The world will try to pull you away from His everlasting love but He’s with you and reminds you that He paid a great price for you.
Jesus Paid the Price
More than 2,000 years ago Jesus Christ was manifested to us in flesh and suffered the cross. He was rejected by those that He created, by those whom He came for, and was treated like dirt. The Bible says that he was disfigured and unrecognizable. The depictions of Christ in movies and paintings are nowhere near the real suffering of Jesus. Imagine being tortured and then having to carry a cross in the desert heat. Add to that the fact that you’re bleeding profusely and find yourself naked and weak. Jesus suffered a great deal but He did it for you and I.
Just moments before His death Jesus found Himself in Gethsemane praying to the Father;
And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. – Matthew 26:39
I always thought Jesus prayed this because He was scared of the cross. But it wasn’t the cross Jesus feared. The substance that was in the cup that He asked the Father to pass from Him was God’s wrath towards sin. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:21, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” Sin deserves a punishment otherwise we would call God unjust. Don’t we expect court judges to serve justice when it comes to the courtroom? If a person went on a killing spree and in court the judge let him off free people would be outraged. They would demand justice because evil deserves a punishment. In the same manner God needs to serve justice. And when Jesus Christ was crucified He became our sin and God brought down justice upon the sins of the world.
Christ Embraces You With Open Arms
Jesus paid the price for you and for me. Your sins; past, present, and future have been blotted out by the blood of Christ. That’s why today if you feel stuck or if your sin has separated you from God, God offers you a new opportunity. Don’t let the enemy keep you down and away from God. Jesus Christ came to save the sinner. When Jesus sat down to eat with sinners the Pharisees criticized Him. But Jesus said that He didn’t come to call the righteous, but to call sinners to repentance. Because it’s the sick that have need of a doctor. Today is a good day to come to Christ. God loves you and has amazing plans for your life. Confess your sins if you have to and get back up. Keep moving forward because the Bible says that only those that persevere, those will be saved.
