Life isn’t always. It seems like problems of various magnitudes are always present. Frustrations are frequent and uncertainty can all equate to a life of stress and unhappiness. But even though problems are a common occurrence in our lives, and always will be, we can rest assured that we are not alone. When Jesus was with His disciples He told them that in this world they would have tribulation but to take courage, He has overcome the world. What a comforting truth.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. – John 16:33
Jesus openly tells us that in this world you will have problems. You will have frustrations. You will experience heartbreak. But in the midst of all this He says, “take courage, I have overcome the world.” God is calling us today to have faith in Him. To have a deeper dependence on Him. It’s easy to worship God when everything is going right for us. But what do we do when trouble comes our way and life’s problems and worries confront us? Sometimes we hide and forget about God’s word.
Problems are a given. Just because you come to Christ doesn’t mean you’re going to have a carefree life. But the difference between a believer and non-believer is that a non-believer thinks they’re walking alone whereas a believer knows that God is with them. Don’t let life’s problems knock you down on the contrary may they push you to seek more of God and His presence.
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. – Joshua 1:9
Jesus confirms that life won’t be easy but afterwards comforts us with another truth; “Take courage, I have overcome the world.” Jesus has conquered the world. Sin has lost its sting because it no longer has the power to enslave us. I remember watching a movie some time ago and I can’t remember exactly what this person said but I’ll paraphrase it in my own words. Letting sin enslave you and/or letting the enemy have a grip on your life is like being inside of a prison cell with the door wide open. We don’t have to be prisoners anymore. Jesus paid the price for your sins and mine. The death that you and I deserved for our trespasses was paid by Jesus Christ Himself. Why would He take our place? Because He loves us. God loves you!
God’s arms are open to receive you regardless of the problems you’re facing today. The Bible says that, “I will in no way cast out those who come to me.” There’s no sin too great that God can’t forgive. There’s no wound too severe that God can’t heal. There’s no hole deep enough that God can’t take you out of. Have faith and remember to take courage; God has overcome the world.
