Good evening everyone. I just realized that it’s been almost two weeks since my last post. Unfortunately, I still haven’t gotten the consistency down for these posts. If anyone visits Revival in Christ regularly I do apologize and will work on getting better. Without further ado I wanted to focus on how we as humans are imperfect individuals. Why are we imperfect? A three letter word can answer this question and that’s, sin. Sin is what separates man from God. Sin has separated him and her from God since the moment Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command (Genesis 3). But thanks to God there’s good news.
No one is perfect. You and I are not perfect. Even the Christian that believes they have it all together still has areas in which they fail God. That’s why the Bible says that we all fall short of the glory of God.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; – Romans 3:23
The Bible is clear that we all fall short of the glory of God. Even if you don’t read the Bible you could analyze your life and notice the areas in which you have failed. Perhaps you’ve told lies, stolen, or dishonored your parents. Whatever that shortcoming is it all reveals to us our fallen nature. But thankfully there’s a cure! Like any sickness, God provides a remedy. Our remedy, the world’s remedy, is named Jesus Christ.
Throughout the Bible we see how men and women from all walks of life were used by God in great ways. In the process, however, they all experienced some sort of hardship. Some like Joseph were sold into slavery by their own family. David as king of Israel committed adultery. Jonah tried to flee God’s calling. The Apostle Peter denied Christ three times after having told him that he would never leave Him. These examples and others show us in 2018 that the men and women of the Bible all had shortcomings just like you and me. Yet through it all God still showed them grace and mercy.
Today we find ourselves in a time where sin runs rampant and temptation can be found at every corner. Our TVs, movies, and music glamorize sin and we are tempted to fall into it. In our streets we might drive past areas that profit off of sin and we might be tempted to fall into it. Distractions are everywhere and they bombard us at every moment. But in the midst of these distractions God is crying out for our attention.
We fall short of God’s glory every day. A white lie may slip our tongue at some point in the day. Maybe we failed to treat someone the way we’d want to be treated. One way or another we fail God on a daily basis. It’s important that we recognize this truth and repent of our sins at all times. If we come to God with a sincere heart and ask for forgiveness, the Bible says that He forgives us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9
We are imperfect humans and it’s ok to acknowledge that. We don’t have to hide from our shortcomings. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to others about those areas than talk to God. God is anxious to help us in our weaknesses. It says that His strength is perfected in our weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:9). I thought about this verse the other day and was impacted! We worry so much and we beat ourselves up for our shortcomings and God is telling us to relax. He’s paid the price for our sins. He’s forgiven us already.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9
You and I have received God’s salvation by grace. And grace according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary is defined as; “unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration or sanctification.” Another definition states; “disposition to or an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency.” We’re not saved by our merits or by how “perfect” we are. The only way we obtain salvation is through the free grace in Jesus Christ.
We’re human and as humans we have imperfections. But we also have a perfect God that came down from heaven more than two thousand years ago and he dwelt among us. The word became flesh. In Jesus we have the ultimate example on how to live our lives. But not only that, He encourages us to walk with Him and to give Him our burdens.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. – Matthew 11:28
God understands that we have weaknesses but He wants to teach us that by ourselves we can’t overcome them. Give your burdens to Christ and He will give you rest. That’s word of God. It’s time for us to come forward and acknowledge that we’re weak but with Christ we are strong. Don’t let your weaknesses and imperfections be a reason for you to run away. On the contrary look at them as an opportunity for God to shine His glory.
