Have you ever taken time to reflect on how far you’ve come? I’m not sure how long you’ve been a Christian for; one month, a year, five years, or more. But, just the other day I reflected on how far I’ve come despite my shortcomings and problems. It’s been about five years now that I gave my life to God and I’ve had my fair share of problems and still do. Five years of learning to depend on God and experiencing ups and downs. But of course it isn’t me because I realize even more how it’s God’s mercy and grace that sustains us. From that every day that we pledged our lives to Christ and received His free gift of salvation, to this very day. That moment where you received His promises with joy, that same God is still with us to this very day. I just want to use this moment to encourage you to maintain your faith. If you’ve come this far it’s because God has a purpose with your life and He’s going to fulfill it. How many of us shouldn’t be dead by now? Imagine having died in one of your mistakes. Imagine if God hadn’t had mercy that day. Thankfully God’s mercy hasn’t run out and He’s kept you alive to this day. I think that’s reason enough for us to rejoice and feel privileged to have another opportunity from God.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28
God isn’t done with you. I know it’s easy to rejoice in God’s promises when life is great. But even in your lowest of moments remember that God’s promises are faithful and true. When life is going great we should rejoice in God’s promises. When life is going south we should rejoice in God’s promises. Job went through hell and back but still managed to maintain His faith in God. That’s a good example for us to look at when we’re going through a tough time. Remember that God doesn’t lie and if life isn’t going our way it’s only like that because God permitted it. God has His reasons for allowing things but if anything in life happened without His consent then He wouldn’t be God. But we believe in a God that is sovereign and has total control of everything.
As I mentioned in the first paragraph; I don’t know long you’ve been a Christian for? Maybe you’re not even a Christian right now. But you’re reading this. You’re clearly alive and I’m sure you’ve also had your fair share of problems. Reflect on those moments and how far you’ve come and how it’s God that has sustained you to this day. When God has a calling over your life He’s going to fulfill it. Jonah had a calling from God but he tried to resist it. He tried fleeing to another city but God catched him there. He used a great fish, as the Bible describes it, until Jonah had a change of heart and aligned himself to God’s calling. One way or another God is going to complete His purpose in you. But like my Pastor says; “It’s better that we obey on good terms.”
The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands. – Psalm 138:8
Life’s mistakes, problems, tough circumstances, all these could have been reasons for you to stop living. But through it all God has sustained you and that should comfort us in knowing that we’re still in God’s thoughts. God isn’t done with you and we simply have to maintain our faith and persevere. We’ve come this far and the Bible says that those that persevere will be saved. This isn’t the time, nor will it ever be, to throw in the towel. The devil wants to destroy us. The world wants us to succumb to its temptations and distractions. But we have to maintain our faith. God isn’t a liar and He will fulfill His promises in your life. It’s a process, it’s a marathon in which you will get tired at times. But just like people who actually run marathons, they might stop running for a moment but they never stop moving. In the same way God wants us to keep on moving. Don’t give up because the Bibles says that those that believe in the Lord will not be ashamed. If you’ve made it this far isn’t safe to say that God has been good?
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. – Matthew 24:13
