One of the most comforting things we can know as Christians is that God protects us. Psalm 91 opens with the following verse; He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. The fourth verse says, “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” Those are amazing truths that we can latch onto when we feel scared and alone.
Trusting God’s Protection
Sometime ago when my parents went on vacation to Mexico I had a sense of fear in me. Mexico is plagued with violence and it’s terrible. It’s so bad that I read a recent report that the US government advised Americans not to visit certain states in the country. So when my parents decided to go visit I got worried. But then I immediately ran to the Bible to remind myself of God’s promises. Reading His word comforted me because it reminds that with God we have the best protection.
My family went and I put them in God’s hands. I don’t say this to glory in myself but to let you know that when we trust God He gives us peace. It’s real! Sometimes we get scared and worry about everything. We allow the devil to have his way with us and to intimidate us. But when we come to Christ and cry out to Him, He listens to us. The Bible says that He gives us peace that surpasses all understanding.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. – Phillippines 4:7
God is good and He’s mighty to save and protect. There’s no better insurance, no better guardian than God. When we trust Him with our lives we have nothing to fear. One thing that I want to stress is that God is sovereign and is always in control. We have limitations that include time, physical, finances, etc. But God doesn’t share those limitations.
God is Always in Control
God is sovereign so He’s not limited by anything. If God had limitations He wouldn’t be God. You could use a little ‘g’ to write His name. But God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. He knows everything and He’s in control of everything. Anything that happens is because God permits it. So even if things don’t go your way we have to remember that God is still in control.
Yesterday I was listening to a sermon on the radio. The man said that God never offers us an explanation as to why he does things. Why did He allow Joseph to be imprisoned for thirteen years before lifting him up as governor of Egypt? Why did God allow His people to be enslaved for 400 years before setting them free? We don’t have answers to these questions. But God wants us to trust Him the sovereign God without limitations. God is loving and anything He allows is because He loves us.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28
The Bible says that we haven’t received a spirit of fear; but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We all get scared from time to time. We worry because we’re human. But that’s where our faith comes into play. Because the Bible reminds us that our God is greater than any fear or worry. So whenever you feel unprotected or fearful remember that God is your protector. There’s nothing to fear when you have the Creator of heaven and earth watching over you.
The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. – Psalm 34:7
