As 2018 comes to a close we have the benefit of looking at 2019 with hope. The Bible says in Romans 8:28 that, “all things work together for good to them that love God.” It doesn’t say all things will be good but it says that all things work together for good.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28
As children of God we have the comfort in knowing that God is working all things for our good. Life hasn’t been perfect up to this point and it won’t be. I’m sorry if that sounds gloomy but it’s true. Jesus Himself said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation.” But it doesn’t mean that God is not in control. Through every circumstance, good and bad, God is still in control.
Remember that God is sovereign otherwise He wouldn’t be God. Whatever problems and difficulties you’re facing, God is in control. When Job had lost everything it was only after God had given the devil permission. And He gave him permission for a reason! Job’s faith grew stronger and he was able to worship God even through difficult circumstances. In the end God blessed him with double of what he had lost.
I don’t want to guarantee you that God is going to multiply your blessings. Can He do it? Of course! But what I want to get across is that in both your best and worst moments God is always in control. And everything that we go through will ultimately work for our good.
The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands. – Psalm 138:8
God’s ultimate purpose is not only the salvation of our souls but to make us more like His son Jesus. God didn’t promise us a life of wealth, riches, and fame. So when we don’t acquire those things we shouldn’t give up on God. Again, can He do it? Of course He can. But in Matthew 6:33 it says, “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Everything that we go through is with the intention of God molding us to be more like Jesus. God wants us to be like Jesus in every area of our lives. When He permits difficult circumstances to come our way it’s with the intent to help us become more like Jesus. When we become more like Jesus we learn to depend on God through any circumstance.
God is good and it’s evident when we find ourselves at the cusp of a new year. It’s coming down to a close and we have reason to rejoice! God’s promises will follow us into the new year. Every problem and challenge that we encounter will have a purpose. Every situation, good or bad, will work towards our good. Nothing happens unless God permits it. Because God is sovereign and He keeps His promises, we can believe that all things will work together for our good.
