Where to start? This is the third time I try to write something today and I’ve hit a wall. I don’t know where to start. My last two drafts began with a gloomy tone. It was depressing and indicative of my current mood. As I attempted to write my second draft I played this song; Way Maker. I wrote my first two paragraphs feeling somewhat discouraged. But as I continued to write, the song ministered to me and God began to take away my sadness and hopelessness. Sometimes it’s not that God is far from us, but it’s us that distance ourselves from God.
Sometimes our connection with God isn’t where it should be. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not perfect, that I make mistakes, and that my relationship with God isn’t always what it should be. Somehow in our brokenness and lack of control, God still remains in control and completely faithful. It’s as if we’re carrying a set of plates and we’re struggling to keep it all together when one by one they start to fall. We start to panic. We start feeling helpless and scared. But God comes up from behind and says, “Relax. I’m right here.”
That’s how life feels sometimes. You’re trying to keep it all together. You’re trying to be that person who can be independent, strong, and useful. But the road isn’t always smooth. On the contrary it’s full of bumps and potholes. But as time passes you also start realizing how God is always faithful. Like the song says, “You never stop working.”
Faith is what keeps us going. Maybe our faith today isn’t what it was a year ago. Maybe last year your hope in God was great and so near. Today it might seem distant like a faraway paradise. But it’s important to always latch on to this hope. Even if it’s by a string don’t let go. Life’s worries and frustrations can take its toll on us. But even if we feel like we’re holding on by a string, it’s enough.
Like the song says, “You are here, You’re working in this place.” Don’t give up. It’s not always an easy path, but God is with you. Even when people turn their backs on you. Even when you’re rejected and being left with nothing, God is still by your side. It doesn’t matter what the world or people say. What matters is what God says, and God says that the good work that He started in you, He will perfect it.
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: – Philippians 1:6
