Good afternoon. I hope you’re having a great day! I wanted to focus on this verse from the book of Isaiah. It’s a word of comfort and strength. It’s a word in which we can rejoice and remember that God is with us. Fears are common in life it seems. Fear can come from anywhere. But the Bible constantly reminds us to not fear because God is with us.
A couple days ago here in Georgia it was sunny. The weather was beautiful and besides a chill wind that blew every once in a while, the weather was great. Yesterday it rained cats and dogs as some would say. The temperature began to dip as the day wore on and it was dark and gloomy all day long. Today it’s cloudy with a chill temperature. Clearly the weather is changing on a daily basis. But the good thing is that God doesn’t change like the weather. God remains the same today, yesterday, and forever.
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. – Hebrews 13:8
God doesn’t change. The weather could have been sunny yesterday and today it could be raining, but God continues to be the same God forever. There is no change in Him. And because of this truth we can latch on to Him with hope. That’s why when fear comes remember that God’s promises are still the same. Even if the enemy wants to come and tell you otherwise, don’t be swayed by his lies. But rather latch on to God’s word and remind yourself that God is greater than any difficulty you encounter. Don’t fear because God is with you.
When David saw Goliath he could have focused on what his eyes saw; a giant. But rather than focus on the physical, David decided to focus on the unseen. David knew who his God was. David knew that even though Goliath was a man of war and a giant among men, he knew that his God was greater.
If you’ve read the story you know what happened next. But if you haven’t, David went on to to kill Goliath without any armor and with only a slingshot and rock as his weapon. But it wasn’t the lone stone that he used that took down the giant. Nor was it the sword that he used to cut his head off that did it. It was God that delivered the giant to him. Because instead of letting fear drive him, David decided to place his trust and confidence in God.
We go back to the verse in Hebrews; “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” The same God that delivered Goliath into David’s hands is the same God of today. All we need is faith and to let go of any fear that hinders us. Fear can paralyze us just like it did with the people of Israel and its king when Goliath approached them. As humans we’ll always experience fear in our lives. But we mustn’t let it overcome us.
Fears are common but our God is greater. The enemy will come and tell you a lie. We might acknowledge the lie and if we give it any thought it’ll grow in size. Before we know it we’ll be staring at a giant that we personally fed and allowed to grow to that size. But just like Goliath eventually met his demise our giants will also face a similar fate if we believe like David did.
Whenever we are faced with fears our first response should be to run to God. Let’s ask God to help us overcome our fears. The Bible says that nothing is impossible for God. If God is for us, who can be against us?
