God Doesn’t Need Us, We Need God

Good morning! I hope you’re having a great day. This morning was smoother than recent days. I took my son to school and made it to work before my shift started. Arriving early meant I had extra time on my hands. I had about 20-25 minutes before I went in so I decided to go pray. I’m no prayer warrior, something that I desperately need to become, but I wanted to start praying more today.

I’d be lying if I said my relationship with God is where I want it to be. I used to pray a lot more and I used to do everything that helps nurture our relationship with God which includes fasting and reading of the word. But I’ve been seriously slacking in those areas. So when I say I took time to pray this morning, I don’t say it to brag or make myself look like a great christian, because I’m not. The reason I share this with you is because I hope to encourage others to make the decision to seek God.

The Bible says that God’s mercies are new every morning. I remembered that word this morning and I latched on to it. Maybe these past years haven’t been the most fulfilling years of my life but God’s mercies are new every morning. That means today is a new opportunity to start over. I want to latch on to that word so bad and like the father with a sick child told Jesus, “I believe, help my unbelief,” I told God the same thing.

It’s okay to be honest with God. A lot of times we do believe but we have trouble believing all the way. We know it’s possible, we know there’s a God, but we have trouble actually placing our full trust in God. I don’t know about you but I need help believing in God more. I need more faith. So it’s fine if you’re in the same boat because this man had the same issue. A part of him believed but he also acknowledged that a part of him needed help believing. So he asked Jesus, “I believe, help my unbelief.”

Another thing that came to my mind this morning was the fact that God doesn’t need us. We need God! God wants to have a relationship with us. He hasn’t hidden Himself from us. On the contrary God has revealed Himself through His son Jesus Christ. So God isn’t a God that doesn’t want His creation to know Him. He desires to have a relationship with us. But whether or not we want to have a relationship with Him is dependent on us.

God without us is still God. Us without God, well, we’re nothing. Us seeking God through prayer, fasting, and reading of the word only benefits us. Is God happy when we commune with Him? Of course! But at the end of the day the ones that truly come out winning from seeking God is you and I. That’s why today is the day. Sometimes we get so comfortable that we forget about how fragile life is. One day we’re here and the next day we’re gone. Tomorrow could very well be too late.

I’ve been honest with you and about the current state of my relationship with God. If we’ve made it this far it’s because of God’s great love. His grace sustains us when we’re not giving Him our all. When we mistakes His mercy is there to forgive us and give us a new opportunity. God is good and His mercy is everlasting. It won’t be a perfect relationship from our end but God is patient. Just because there may be bumps on the road doesn’t mean we shouldn’t seek God.

Today is a great day to seek God and to give ourselves completely to Him. A relationship doesn’t blossom overnight. You don’t get to know a person in one date. But over the course of days and years you get to know the person better. The more time we spend with someone, the more we get to know them. The same principle applies to God. The more time we spend with God, the more we get to know Him. It doesn’t matter where you find yourself in life, just remember that God’s mercies are new every morning. Today is a good day to give your life to Christ and to start building that relationship that wasn’t there or perhaps you neglected for some time.
