There’s Hope in Depression – Revolución TV (Episode 1)

Good morning! I hope you’re having a great day. It’s a new day which means you’ve made it another day. Whatever happened yesterday is in the past. Regardless of our circumstances God offers us a new opportunity, today! Yesterday I was at church with some of the youth to begin our new project, “Revolución TV” (Revolution TV). It’s a project which we pray will impact lives for Christ. Nowadays social media is a daily part of our lives. The world uses them to promote things that don’t help us. So this is our way of using this platform to reach lives with the Gospel and to let people know that there is hope.

The show is in Spanish but we hope to include English at some point. Unfortunately, this may not be beneficial to my English readers, but I’d appreciate the support, and will keep you posted on future English content. Yesterday we launched our first episode and we spoke about depression.

Revolution Youth

Depression is a serious problem in today’s society. So many people including Christians suffer from depression. Depression can be caused by many things but if left unattended it can have tragic consequences. It’s important that we talk about this problem that has quickly become an epidemic. In the United States it’s the leading cause of suicide. It’s no joke!

I’ve gone through depression as I’m sure most of us have. I know from personal experience how it feels to be depressed. You’re sad and you don’t have the energy or desire to do anything. You have a void in your heart and you feel like there’s no more hope for you. But nothing could be further than the truth. There is hope! And hope is found in Jesus Christ.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. – Isaiah‬ ‭41:10‬

We’ve all experienced depression to some extent. When you find yourself in that condition it’s hard for you to see any light in your situation. You feel alone and you have a sense that no one truly understands what you’re going through. But let me tell you that someone does know what you’re going through. God sees your pain and loneliness. He sees your condition and He’s sympathetic to what you’re going through. Why? Because God loves you and He experienced what you’re going through.

The Bible tells us that in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. It further tells us that the word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus Christ the person was born more than 2,000 years ago. He lived a life like yours and mine. He had fun, He laughed, He cried, He was made fun of, He suffered, and He was tempted like you and I. The only difference in that last bit, however, is that Jesus never sinned. But aside from that He experienced things that we experience on a daily basis. That’s why God can relate to you. He understand what you’re going through and He wants to help you.

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. – Hebrews 4:15

God doesn’t want us living in a cave. God wants us to understand just how much He loves us. One thing one of our youth mentioned yesterday is the fact that we tend to believe what others tell us about ourselves but we have a hard time believing what God says about us. The world may call you worthless and incapable of doing something, but God sees you differently. God thought you were so valuable that He literally came down from heaven to demonstrate His love for you and I on a cross. It was a public demonstration of just how much God loves us.

There’s hope in depression. You’re not alone. Like I mentioned before, I’ve gone through depression myself. It’s not easy to come out of it when you’re going through it, but there is hope. One thing I recommend is to surround yourself with people that can help you. Your local church, family, and friends. You may not want to express everything you’re going through but start surrounding yourself with people that care about you and make an effort to talk to them about what you’re going through. Above all seek God. God understands you. Talk to Him in prayer and He’ll be there to listen. There’s a song that says, “God doesn’t reject a prayer.” Don’t give up! God loves you and there is hope in Jesus Christ!
