Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. – Ephesians 4:8
When Jesus ascended up to heaven it says that He gave gifts unto men. Each one of us has a calling from God and God has also equipped us with gifts. One thing I want to emphasize is that every person is unique in his or her own way. We should never try to be someone else because each one of us has something special from God that makes us unique. We are special in our own way. And God wants us to put into action the gift that He has given us.
The Bible describes the church as the body of Christ. Christ is the head and everything flows down to the body which is us. Each one of us has something special to offer. The Bible says that a hand can’t be a foot and vice versa. That’s a good way to let us know that we’re all different but that at the end of the day we are all useful. A body without a hand isn’t complete or a body without a leg isn’t complete. Being different shouldn’t discourage us but rather it should encourage us.
We all have something special from God that He wants us to share with the world. A pastor recently visited our church and he said that the gifts and talents God has given us aren’t for keeps. They are meant to be put into action and to lead people to Christ. Because we’re different that means that each one of us offers something that the other person can’t offer. Your next door neighbor might be good at singing while you can’t sing quite as good. But you might be good at playing an instrument while they can’t. Just because someone is good at something your not doesn’t mean you don’t have something good to offer.
It’s a difficult task to find out what your calling is. Some people already know while others like me, aren’t quite as sure. But I think the important part is to do something that you not only like but are also passionate about. For example; I have a desire to do something for God and Revival in Christ provides me with the platform to do just that. I feel good doing something for God through blogs, videos, and editing pictures. I also like preaching, but that’s an area I still get nervous about. But those are some things that I not only like but feel passionate about. As long as we continue to seek God’s will and to obey Him our calling will become clearer with the passage of time.
I want to encourage you to do something for God, today! God wants us to use those gifts and talents to help others. Our gifts and talents are not for us to keep to ourselves but to share them with others. When we focus on doing something for God we’ll not only find joy and satisfaction but we’ll also make an impact in the world. There’s a need for your gift and talent in the world. It’s never too late to start doing something for God. We shouldn’t let people discourage us from doing the things that we like and feel passionate about. The Nike slogan rings true here; “Just do it.”
For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. – Romans 12:4-9
