Our eyes may not always see what we desire. We might look at our current circumstances and be filled with worry and doubt. But unlike the unbeliever who has no other alternative but to believe that, we do. Better yet, even the unbeliever has the hope of a better perspective if they simply come to Christ. The Bible says that it’s that simple. Because as children of God we don’t have to conform to what our eyes see. We have to conform to what God says.
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:) – 2 Corinthians 5:7
Even though our eyes may not see what we want, we can hope for better things. We can also began to speak a word of faith. When Ezekiel was taken to the valley of dry bones, God told Him to prophesy over the bones.
Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord. So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. – Ezekiel 37:4-7
Ezekiel’s eyes only saw a valley of dry bones. Lifeless, cold bones. But God told Him to prophesy, to speak a word of faith over what he saw. When Ezekiel obeyed God’s command, the bones started to form themselves into bodies. Bones came together with ligaments attaching themselves to form perfect human bodies. And God breathed life into them.
Today God is still the same God that brought life to those bones. He hasn’t changed. Our circumstances may not always be what we want. But that doesn’t mean we can’t speak a word of faith over them. Just like Ezekiel prophesied over the dry bones and they formed together to become bodies, you and I can also start to speak faith over our circumstances. We walk by faith and not by sight.
