Believing in a Promise Keeper

The other day I thought about something my Pastor said. That sometimes we feel like we’re hearing the same message over and over again. But that it’s necessary to be reminded because sometimes we forget. I thought about this and then realized that the fact that we’re listening to the same message is just another piece of evidence that God does not change. It would be strange if one day we were told that God has a plan for us, but a day later be told that He doesn’t have a plan with us. That’s a different, changing message. But the fact that God said He had a plan with us yesterday and is saying the same thing today, means that God is truly an unchanging God. He’s a promise keeper.

The Bible says that God is not a man to lie, nor a son of man to repent. Whatever God promises, He fulfills. How many times has a family member or friend promised you something, only to leave you hanging in the end. “I promise I’ll be there,” but then they don’t show up. How many promises have we made, but haven’t gone through with them? Maybe we forgot or maybe we never intended to keep the promise in the first place. Whatever the reason, we as individuals tend to change and promises aren’t something we always live up to. The good news is that we know somebody that does keep their promise and His name is Jesus Christ.

God’s unchanging message is a reason to rejoice and to look at our present and future with optimism and hope. After all, we have a living hope in Jesus Christ. I’ve always thought, how would life be if Jesus had never resurrected from the grave? What if Jesus had lived and done all the miracles He did but ultimately faced the same fate we all do? What if Jesus was buried and scientists could go and dig up His remains today? Where would our hope be if Jesus died like a mere mortal with death as His victor? Thank God that’s not what happened.

Jesus resurrected from the grave three days after his passing, giving us all a living hope. Had Jesus not resurrected, then nothing He had preached would have mattered. But, because Jesus did rise on the third day, it only validated what He said. Death had no grip on Him and He conquered it and put it under His feet and ours. Now we can look towards a God that keeps His promises. Whatever God promises, He fulfills. He said He would conquer death and He did. He said He has good plans for you and I, and He does. Don’t give up hope. Look towards Christ as the resurrected savior that conquered death and is mighty to fulfill His promises.
