Life isn’t easy. I think by now most of us know that life isn’t a walk in the park. We all encounter hard times. But, even though hard times are a given, it doesn’t mean we have to have a bleak outlook on life. Life is good because God is good. Don’t worry, trust God. God wants us to deposit our trust in Him. He’s a good Father that cares about His children. How many of us have children or siblings that we care about? If we’re imperfect humans capable of caring about others, imagine the love and care of a perfect God.
When Peter was on the boat with the other disciples and he saw Jesus at sea, he was terrified. He couldn’t believe his eyes. But he took a major step in faith and got off the boat. He walked towards Jesus until he lost focus and began to drown. Thankfully for Peter, Jesus was there to save him. Jesus hasn’t changed. Just like He offered His hand to help out Peter, today He extends His hand to help us.
For a moment, Peter wasn’t worried when his feet were walking upon water. He trusted God and his eyes were strictly on him. The reality around him wasn’t important because the only reality that mattered was the One standing across from him. But suddenly Peter began to worry. He started to realize what was actually going on; he was walking on water in the middle of the sea, in the midst of a storm. He saw the scene around him and lost his focus.
The good news for Peter and us is that God isn’t a careless God. Instead of leaving Peter to find a way back to the boat, He immediately extended His hand and lifted Peter up. Jesus told Peter, “O thou of little faith.” The disciple’s faith waned and when he began to worry about the things around him, he started to drown in fear. But before that happened, his faith led him to do the unthinkable; walk on water. God worked a miracle that day and all Jesus desired of Peter was for him to simply get off the boat and walk.
God us calling us today to do the exact same thing Peter did more than two thousand years ago. He wants us to get off the boat and to walk towards Him. Our surroundings may not be favorable. We might be living in the midst of a storm. Maybe our conformity doesn’t welcome change, but God wants us to change. He wants us to take one step towards Him. Don’t worry, trust God. Trust God like Peter did when he first got off the boat. And if you lose focus, don’t worry, because God will be there to lift you up again.
