They say Jesus is a sweet name. It’s a name that brings comfort to our bones in times of anguish. Jesus is a name that brings hope to the hopeless and strength to the weak. It’s a name that continues to deliver joy to the broken heart. Jesus is truly a sweet name. I don’t know where my life would be without Jesus. I’m not perfect and will never try to paint myself as such. But if there’s one thing I can say is that God is good and His mercy is everlasting.

Revival in Christ, Jesus and the lost sheep, the shepherd and the lost sheep, looking for the lost sheep, leaving the 99, christian blog, christian blogger, christian revival

Jesus came down from heaven on a mission to find the lost. The lost that included you and me. Jesus describes His mission in a parable when he talks about the shepherd that lost one of his 100 sheep. The Bible says that the shepherd left the 99 to go look for the lost one. I don’t know how much he struggled in finding this sheep, but it says that when he found it he returned home and celebrated with his friends. Such is the love of God that loved us so much that He decided to leave the conformity of His throne to seek us.

What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. – Luke 15:4-6

Jesus is a beacon of hope for the lost individual who finds themselves without any hope. It’s the free gift of God offered to all men and women. Your age, sex, financial status doesn’t matter. It also doesn’t matter if you’ve committed the worst of sins. The hope that God provides in Jesus Christ is available to all. God doesn’t discriminate. All He’s looking for is a willing heart. Are you willing to receive this gift?

I think back to an illustration my Pastor gave us. A convict on death row is just minutes away from being executed when suddenly someone comes in to inform him of a drastic change of plans. “Someone is taking your place. You can leave.” The convict rises up in disbelief, not knowing what is going on. A man walks in, while the former convict walks away, and he sits on the electric chair. He paid the price for this man and took his place.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. – 2 Corinthians 5:21

God’s love can’t be explained. Who would do such a thing? Would you take someone’s place on death row? Quite honestly, I wouldn’t, let alone for a criminal or someone that has caused me harm. But once again, such is the love of God for you and me. He paid a big price that we can’t repay. He loved us when we didn’t love Him.

The salvation of God is a free gift for all humanity. It’s something we could never obtain on our own. A ticket to heaven can’t be bought like an airline ticket. It’s worth more than the most luxurious travel plan and worth more than anything money can buy. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Through Him we have the promise of eternal life. You can be missing everything, but if you have Jesus, you have it all. Jesus is a sweet name indeed.
