The Gospel can be summed up in this one verse. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The purpose of the Gospel is to unite us with our Creator. Everyone has sinned and falls short of the glory of God, but one day God looked down on humanity and came down to save us. The love of God is the love that loves unconditionally.
Sin is what separates humanity from God. God is holy and can’t mix Himself with iniquity. Light and darkness can’t go together just like water and oil don’t mix. We’ve all sinned regardless of how good of a person we think we are. No amount of good works can get us to heaven. Left to our own resources we are unable to access heaven and face hell as an imminent finale. But God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
One day God saw our fallen condition and felt compassion. He saw us walking towards hell and we had no way of changing this. Our merits, our strength, our intelligence, our wisdom, our riches were not sufficient to change our course. But God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
God loved us when no one else loved us. At our lowest, God loved us. His love is unchanging, it’s unwavering, it’s unrelenting. He loves us when we give Him no reason to love us. God demonstrates this love to us on the cross. He took our sin by becoming our sin and nailing it on the cross. He cast away our sins to the depths of the ocean and forgave us. He took our place and died a death that you and I deserved and He did it out of love. God loves us and He continues to love us to this day.
