There’s an old song by the late Johnny Cash titled, “Do Lord.” The song goes, “Do Lord, O, Do Lord, O do remember me.” And it makes me reflect on our mortality and how fragile we are as human beings. We’re not perfect and we make mistakes. Sometimes we stumble and get discouraged. We feel pain, guilt, shame, sadness. We’re fallen by nature and so we ask God, “Do Lord, O, Do Lord, O do remember me.”
Life is Short and Fragile
Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. – James 4:14
Life is short and fragile. The Bible describes our time on earth as nothing more than a vapor. When I read this I think about the mist that comes out from an air freshener. The mist comes out and you’ll see it for a second before it’s gone, evaporated into thin air. That’s how our life on earth is. It’s here one minute and gone the next. We’re fragile, helpless human beings in desperate need of a merciful and gracious God.
Running to God When We Make Mistakes
As long as we find ourselves in this body on this earth, mistakes are bound to happen. This is not justification to sin, but rather the realization that we are human. When mistakes happen we have to quickly run to the arms of God and seek His forgiveness and refuge. Only God can provide us with forgiveness and the peace that surpasses all knowledge. He’s forgiving and willing to help us navigate this world.
Our hope is that God remembers us. We’re like ants, we’re small compared to mountains, oceans, earth, planets, and outer space. Now imagine how small we are compared to the Creator of all these things; the great I Am. I remember being at Puerto Rico and there was a beautiful scenery of the ocean. I was scared standing by the edge of a giant wall. I saw how high I was and how great the ocean was. I felt small. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we are reminded about how powerless we really are.
God Forgives
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9
Everyday is a new opportunity to seek God. If we’ve sinned, the Bible says He’s faithful and just to forgive us if we confess our sins. He wipes away our transgressions and cleanses us of all unrighteousness. Remember me God in my times of trouble. He is faithful. Life isn’t a walk in the park, but if we maintain our faith we can be certain that we will never walk alone. God walks with us and He guides us. He’s our light in the darkness and our hope.
