Before Jesus ascended up to heaven He told His disciples, “I will be with you always.” Jesus never lies. He told His disciples that He would be with them always. Not just on the good days when the sun is shining and everything seems to be going well, but also on the bad days. Those days that feel dark and empty. Those days that seem void of any hope. Fear envelops us as we look at the insurmountable problems before us. He said He would be with us always.
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. – Matthew 28:20
We can’t give up. Sometimes life does take its toll on us. Lately I’ve been facing more problems than before. Some days I feel hopeless. I feel weak and simply want to run away. But I can’t. I have a life that I have to attend to; work, family, my son. And even though these problems seem like giants before me, I ask God to help me. I know that God is the only One that can help me conquer my giants.
Tonight I just want to share that desire to want to keep going. To not give up before the face of adversity. I ask God why these issues have risen. Life seemed simpler a few years back. But then I think about gold and how it goes through a fiery process to be molded into fine jewelry. The Bible says that we are more precious than gold. Even though it’s difficult to smile and rejoice in the sight of trouble, I know that it’s important to do so. Why? Because God is still working in our lives.
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: – 1 Peter 1:7
None of us are perfect individuals. I have my fair share of flaws and I make mistakes. Sometimes I make big mistakes that I end up regretting. But I always try to hold on to that faith that Jesus is with me. I know that God is with you too. The Bible says that those that receive Him are made children of God. If you’re a child of God than you’re a partaker of His promises. We have hope in Jesus but our focus gets distorted when we allow the problems we’re facing to become bigger than God.
God is bigger than our problems. But sometimes we become like Peter when he was walking on the waters. In the beginning, His sights were on Jesus alone. He was focused on Him and had no time to think about what he was doing. Peter was doing the unthinkable; he was walking on water. Just think about how crazy that is. But at some point in his walk, Peter lost focus on Jesus. His gazed turned towards the storm around him. The waters were raging and he noticed that he was walking upon them. He immediately sunk.
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? – Matthew 14:31
Jesus saved Peter that day but He scolded him by saying, “O thou of little faith.” Peter doubted for a split second and that negligence cost him. But when his eyes were on Jesus, the impossible happened. The Bible says that what’s impossible for men, is possible with God. The problems we face in life might look like intimidating giants, but we cannot give up hope. God is with us. No matter strong the storm may be, have faith that Jesus is fulfilling His promise, “I will be with you always.”
