Easter Sunday 2020 was different because of the circumstances many of us found ourselves celebrating it in. The United States and the world in general is still suffering the effects of the Coronavirus. Our service this year was streamed online. You can watch it by clicking here. But regardless of the circumstances, it doesn’t take away from the fact that Jesus conquered the grave.
More than 2,000 years ago, the Bible says that God walked among us. He was born through a virgin, and lived a life just like you and me. He felt happiness, joy, sadness, anger, and pain. He felt all the emotions you and I feel. He felt energetic and some days He felt tired. He was tempted in all things, but He never sinned. Jesus was God in the flesh, and the Bible says that we held His glory.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. – John 1:14
At the age of 30, Jesus began His ministry in earnest. He worked miracles and taught His disciples. He established our faith and taught us that He is the way, the truth, and the life. There is no other way to heaven except through Jesus. Buddha, Mohammad, or any gods can’t save you. Only Jesus has the power to save. Jesus said it Himself;
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. – John 14:6
Three years after He started His ministry, Jesus’ life ended just the way He prophesied it. I used to wonder why Jesus told the Father, “let this cup pass from me: (Matthew 26:39).” It wasn’t the physical pain of death that Jesus feared. Jesus knew that the contents inside the cup was the wrath of God for our sins. Jesus took our place. He became our sin.
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. – 2 Corinthians 5:21
Easter is a reminder that Jesus conquered the grave. Three days after His death, they went to look for Him in His tomb. To their surprise, the tomb was empty! Jesus had risen from the dead effectively conquering death and sin. He gave us a living hope. Had Jesus remained dead, we would have no hope. Anything He told us would have been a lie. But thank God that it wasn’t. The message rings true; He is risen.
