That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. – Romans 10:9-10

Salvation is not difficult to obtain. A lot of other world religions require you to work your way to heaven. If you don’t live up to these requirements, hell or reincarnation awaits you. But the Christian faith is different in the sense that it offers us the free gift of salvation. Jesus died on the cross for our sins to pay a price you and I could never pay on our own.

Jesus became sin even though He never sinned Himself. We sin daily or at least we make efforts not to sin. But, regardless we’re sinful creatures. Our sins have eternal repercussions.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. – Romans 6:23

The only punishment for sin is death. “But every man dies,” you might be saying to yourself. But it’s a spiritual death that the Bible is talking about. In other words, our sins automatically condemn us to hell. Before God there are no small or big sins. Man might classify sins in stature such as stealing a box of cookies in comparison to stealing money from the bank. But God doesn’t differentiate sin. For Him, sin is sin.

That’s a harsh reality and a tremendous wake up call to all of us. It lets us know that you could consider yourself a good person because you don’t commit major crimes, but you’re still not exempt from hell. Each one of us deserves hell, but God in His lovingkindess took our place.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9

No man can boast and say, “Oh, I’m going to heaven because I do x amount of good deeds.” The Bible says that you and I have been saved by grace. Grace means being given something you don’t deserve. We don’t deserve Jesus but God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Salvation is not difficult to obtain. Simply confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that He has risen from the dead and you will be saved. Works are important, but they will be a natural result of your love and gratitude for what God has done for you. Jesus paid a price so that you and I could be saved.
