O Lord, how my adversaries have increased! Many are rising up against me. Many are saying of my soul, “There is no deliverance for him in God.” Selah. But You, O Lord, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head. I was crying to the Lord with my voice, And He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah. I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustains me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me round about. Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God! For You have smitten all my enemies on the cheek; You have shattered the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the Lord; Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah. – Psalm 3:1-8
What an amazing word from God! Before I jump into this post, I want to say God bless you and that I hope you’re having a great Sunday. Church today was amazing and I invite you to check out today’s service. I’ve embedded the video at the end of this post so please do take some time and check it out. It was a powerful word and I’m sure it’ll be a blessing to your life as well.
A Grim Beginning Ends in Hope
Psalm 3 is such a powerful and uplifting psalm. It starts out by painting a grim picture; “My adversaries have increased. Many are rising up against me.” That sounds like a difficult situation to be in. Think about the times you’ve felt overwhelmed by problems. Maybe problems came at you from left and right and you felt like a host of negative things had risen up against you. You feel powerless and vulnerable. You might even want to leave everything and run far away.
But we can’t always run away from our problems. We still have responsibilities at home, family and kids that need tending. So where do we find the peace that we so desperately desire? The answer of course is in none other than Jesus Christ. I remember when a brother would tell me that Jesus was the answer. I didn’t understand how this man could help me. But sure enough, Jesus was the answer and continues to be the answer.
In the End Only God Can Save
The psalm goes on to describe how God sustains and protects us. How He is the lifter of our heads. Your countenance might fall when you’re saddened and overwhelmed. But God lifts up your head and reminds you that you are His. His promises haven’t expired. He is still with you to this day. An army could rise against you, but God wants us to have faith. Because salvation belongs to the Lord.
