“Let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” The moment we receive Jesus as our Lord ad Savior, we embark on a lifelong race. This isn’t your typical sprint or flat surfaced race. No, this race will at times be long and involve a rocky terrain. You’ll have your ups and downs and moments where you can relax and enjoy the breeze. Sometimes a storm will arise and the winds and rain will descend. But through it all, the Lord commands us to, “run with patience the race that is set before us.”
The disciples were sad when Jesus told them that He was going back to heaven. They desperately wanted Him to stay with them. But Jesus told them His ascension was necessary. If He didn’t go, the Comforter couldn’t come. The disciples would receive this promise when the Holy Spirit descended upon them on the day of Pentecost.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26
We too can partake in this promise. When we receive Jesus into our hearts, the Lord commands us to run the race with patience. But He also sends His Holy Spirit to help us. We are not alone. God’s Spirit is with us and so we have nothing to fear. When our bodies start to get tired and our souls began to faint, the Spirit of God gives us new strength. The Holy Spirit reminds us that we are not running alone. We have the Spirit of God to help us along the way.
Today I want to encourage every reader to continue running the race set before you. It’s a privilege to have been called by God. The Creator of the heavens and earth has set His eyes on you. He called you by name because He not only loves you, but He sees the potential in you. God wants you to run the race set before you knowing that He will be with you every step of the way. When the terrain is smooth and the winds are refreshing, He is with you. When the winds are blowing violently and the storm is raging, He is with you.
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. – Matthew 28:20
