The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. – Psalm 23:1

Hey, good afternoon everyone. I hope you’re having a blessed day. It’s been a year of unexpected events, but it’s also been a year where we’ve been able to see God’s faithfulness. My Pastor says that we can always take something good out of a bad situation. If 2020 has shown us anything it’s that God’s faithfulness to His people is still active.

Psalm 23:1 says that, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” Sometimes, and especially in today’s society, we may feel like we’re lacking something. We might be lacking peace, strength, comfort, and/or material things. But the Bible says that, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” That means that God provides for our needs. This doesn’t mean that He’ll always provide you with your wants, but it does mean that He’ll provide for your needs.

August 17, 2020. We’re more than halfway through the year and how many of us can agree that it’s been a roller coaster of a year? But we can’t allow ourselves to dwell on the negative aspects of the year. Yes, it’s been tough. Yes, it hasn’t been what we expected. But we have to be like Job. Job didn’t expect the crisis that would strike his life. He didn’t expect to lose his children, his livestock, his health, but through it all Job uttered these powerful words;

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me. – Job 19:25-27

Job was going through a bad time that many of us can’t relate to. He lost his children, his livestock, his health, and his own wife told him to curse God. But Job’s faith was rooted on the rock. He knew that He didn’t come to God for the benefits, He came to God for who He is. None of us want to be loved for what we can give. We want to be loved unconditionally. How much more does our God not want us to love Him unconditionally?

Today I want to remind you not to worry. God will take care of your needs. The most important thing we can do is make sure that our faith is rooted in the rock that is Jesus Christ. I read a book once that urged the reader to prepare for the incoming crisis we’ll face in life. We have to start preparing today. We have to starting trusting God as our Lord and Savior.
