The light shines in darkness, and the darkness does not comprehend it. It seems only logical when we see it happen with our very own eyes. When you walk into a dark room you automatically look for the light and turn it on. It illuminates you. It allows you to see areas that were once in the dark. In the same manner, God’s light came into this world to reveal those things that were once hidden behind the veil of darkness. Once the light comes, the darkness can’t comprehend it and so it goes away.
Jesus is that light. Without God we’re roaming this earth in darkness. God’s love and mercy caused Him to manifest Himself in human form on a rescue mission to save you and I. This always reminds me of what the late evangelist Billy Graham once said. He said one day, when he was a child, he was with his family walking alongside a mountain. They accidentally stepped on an ant hill and he noticed how all the ants scattered. They looked helpless and scared and there was sadness in his heart as he looked on. He asked, “Is there anything we can do to help them?”
That’s how God saw us. Scattering helplessly like those ants, in fear and without hope. We were walking in darkness, but the Light came down to earth to illuminate us. John 1:5 says; the light shines in darkness, and the darkness can’t comprehend it.” Everyday that we wake up is a new opportunity from God. Regardless of how dark your circumstances may be, you can see God’s mercy every day you wake up. It’s God’s reminder that the light has come.
