As news of the Coronavirus pandemic continues to run rampant, people are finding themselves with a sense of dread and fear. Who will come to our rescue? Will government eradicate our fears in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic or should we depend on ourselves to get us through this tough time? In reality there’s only one person who can help us and His name is Jesus Christ.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. – Psalm 121:1-2

In a time of global crisis, the world needs hope. People are panicking and stocking up on food and weapons. The media and government are pushing a common narrative, one of fear and doom. People find themselves in a state of disarray. But there is good news in the midst of all this chaos. Not everything is lost.

My Pastor was preaching on Matthew 8:23-27 yesterday and it talks about the storm that the disciples found themselves in as they navigated the sea on a boat. The winds were mounting in strength and the waves were about to engulf the boat and sink it. It was a terrifying scene and the disciples were understandably fearful. While all this was going on, however, Jesus was inside the boat sleeping.

And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! – Matthew 8:23-17

The disciples were afraid and uncertain about their futures. Perhaps life was passing right before their eyes as the storm continued to get worse. They were human and felt fear just we do. But God was always in control of the situation. Jesus woke up and calmed the storm. Today God has the power to calm the storm. But while the storm rages we must be confident in knowing that He is in the boat.

The times are uncertain and for many it is bringing economic hardship and sickness. But we can’t let the storm get the best of us. We can’t allow the greatness of the storm to alter reality and that reality is that God is greater than the storm. No matter how great the waves become and no matter how strong the winds blow, God is in control and He will get us through this storm.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. – John 16:33

God wants to remind us today that He’s in control. Relax and place your faith and confidence in God. When has God ever failed us? This Coronavirus pandemic is instilling fear in the masses but us believers must remain firm in our faith. Now is the time to preach the Gospel and to share the good news. Jesus Christ has come to offer us salvation, healing, peace, joy, and a living hope. These times are bad, but God has already conquered.
